HC Deb 05 March 1990 vol 168 c527W
49. Mr. Gerald Bowden

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what recent contact social security Ministers have had with representatives of war pensions interest groups.

Mrs. Gillian Shephard

My noble Friend Lord Henley, who has special responsibility for war pensions, regularly meets representatives of war pensioners and war widows to discuss matters of concern.

In the last six months he has chaired the central advisory committee on war pensions and met representatives of war pensions committes in three regions. He also opened the war pensioners' annual national homecraft and art exhibition. He has received deputations from the Royal British Legion and the War Widows Association of Great Britain. He attended remembrance day ceremonies at the Cenotaph and the Not Forgotten Association's Christmas party for war disabled pensioners. In addition he has visited the headquarters of the Royal British Legion and its village at Maidstone and answered letters on a variety of topics.
