§ Mr. SpellerTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give details of financial assistance offered to local authorities along the north Devon coast in respect of capital costs incurred in relation to recent storm damage.
§ Mr. ChopeWe wrote to local authorities on 6 February indicating that the Department would be prepared to consider issuing in appropriate circumstances additional capital allocations or borrowing approvals in respect of expenditure in 1989–90 and supplementary credit approvals in respect of expenditure in 1990–91 incurred as a result of the storms of 16 and 17 December or 25 January of floods in the Severn valley following 29 January. Applications should be submitted by 30 June 1990. None have yet been received from authorities in Devon.
