§ Mr. CorbynTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the number of deaths in police custody in London for each year since 1980, the coroners' verdict on the cause of death and the result, if any, of police investigations.
§ Mr. Peter LloydThe number of deaths which occurred in police custody, or otherwise with the police, in London, and the associated inquest verdicts, are contained in the annual reports of the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis. An investigation is carried out by the Metropolitan police into all such deaths. However, I am advised that the results of those investigations are not recorded centrally, and could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
