To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what was the name of the company which did not take up the invitation to tender for the job of his special public relations and marketing adviser on electricity privatisation.

Valin Pollen International was invited to tender for the position of special marketing and public relations adviser to my Department, but declined to participate.

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy whether the conventions set out in the Central Office of Information publication of 1981 on the role of Government information officers will apply to Lowe Bell and Dewe Rogerson in their respective roles as special public relations and marketing advisers to him and public relations and marketing advisers on electricity privatisation to his Department and the electricity supply industry.

Government Departments commissioning public relations and marketing advisers comply with the conventions set out in the Cabinet paper entitled "Central Government Conventions on Publicity and Advertising" which is in the Libraries of both Houses.
