§ Mr. SainsburyWe regularly review with the BBC World Service the hours of English language teaching (ELT) for eastern Europe and other regions. ELT in English to Europe and the Soviet Union increased by 50 per cent. to 26.5 hours a week between 1986 and 1989. In addition, 4.5 hours a week are broadcast in eastern European and Russian vernaculars.
