Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will publish in theOfficial Report a table showing for England and Wales the total rateable values of residential property at the time of the last revaluation together with the estimated capital value; and whether he will provide in each case the proportion accounted for by the half with the lowest values.

Mr. Lilley

As the book "Inland Revenue Statistics 1989" shows, the total rateable value of residential property in England and Wales at 1 April 1973 is £4,032 million. The information on capital value is contained in the book "UK National Accounts 1989." The other information could not be produced without a disproportionate expenditure of time and resources.
