HC Deb 01 March 1990 vol 168 c315W
Mr. Jack

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what progress is being made in the development of community projects between schools; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Mawhinney

Since the cross-community contact scheme was introduced in September 1987 to promote contacts across the community divide, about a third of the schools in Northern Ireland have received assistance towards the costs of structured, ongoing joint programmes.

In addition, the education for mutual understanding programme is incorporated as a compulsory cross-curricular theme in the new common curriculum.
