Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what percentage of private and voluntary residential care and nursing homes the independent sector provides for each year since 1980 in Wales.

Private and voluntary residential homes are all in the independent sector.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many people are employed by(a) voluntary registered homes, (b) private registered homes and (c) local authority homes in Wales; and, in each case, what appropriate formal qualifications they have.

Mr. Grist

The number of people employed by voluntary and private registered homes is not held centrally. The number of people employed in local authority homes as at 30 September 1989 is shown in the following table. Information on their appropriate formal qualifications is not held centrally.

1980; and if he will estimate what the change will be in these figures in the future due to changes in community care policy.

The number of residents aged 65 years and over in accommodation for elderly people in local authority and private and voluntary residential homes is shown in the following table:

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many (i) private registered homes, (ii) voluntary registered homes and (iii) local authority homes for the elderly there were in each local authority in Wales(a) how many places these provided and (b) how many residents there were, for each year since 1980; and what estimate he has made of the likely change in these figures as a result of changes in community care.
