HC Deb 25 June 1990 vol 175 c97W
Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what new measures he intends to undertake to assist dyslexic children in schools; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lang

Responsibility for dyslexic children within schools lies with education authorities, which employ learning support teachers to provide for their special educational needs. Additionally the Scottish Education Department has commissioned a research study of policy, practices and provision for children with specific learning difficulties, including dyslexia, which will identify any gaps in provision and offer guidance to teachers of such children. The research will be completed by spring 1992.

Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) how many dyslexic children are educated in each of the education authorities; and if he will make a statement;

(2) how many specialist teachers of dyslexics there are in post in each of the education authorities; and if he will make a statement.
