§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonOur plans to upgrade the A74 to motorway, together with the completion of the680W M40 and the proposed widening of the M6, M1 and M25, will substantially increase road capacity to Europe. In addition, the Scottish Development Department is undertaking a major review to ensure that the strategic Scottish trunk and key principal road network will meet future demands. We are encouraging potential Scottish rail customers to make known to British Rail their requirements for services to Europe via the channel tunnel. The Government's policy of liberalising air services will assist operators to provide improved services where demand exists.
