§ Mr. WaldegraveSince 1950, when we ceased to recognise the nationalist authorities as the Government of China, it has been the policy of successive Governments to have no formal dealings with the authorities in Taiwan. We do, however, seek to promote unofficial trade and cultural links between the United Kingdom and Taiwan.
