§ Mr. RidleyLast week's meeting of the GATT negotiating group on textiles and clothing in Geneva 597W continued discussions on arrangements for phasing out the multi-fibre arrangement (MFA) after its expiry next year. The European Community tabled a paper further elaborating its ideas for the reintegration of the textile trade into GATT. The paper reiterated the Community's support for a solution based on phasing out the MFA and dealt with amongst other things product coverage, the process of phasing out restrictions, and the length and nature of transitional safeguards.
