§ Dr. GodmanTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whether there is any extra provision of services and support for prisoners who are physically or mentally handicapped; and if he will make a statement.
§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonPhysically and mentally handicapped prisoners are assessed by the medical officer on arrival at prison regarding their general condition, mobility and awareness of their situation. Prison establishments seek to meet the needs of these inmates on an individual basis. The medical officer ensures continuation of any medication in addition to referral, as required, for psychiatric and psychological opinion.
