§ Sir David SteelTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will seek to extend the sentencing provisions of the Protection of Animals (Penalties) Act 1987 relating to the penalties for those found guilty of animal cruelty and in particular those involved in dog fighting, so as to cover Scotland.
§ Mr. RifkindThe Government intend to seek to increase the maximum fine available to the Scottish courts in respect of offences of cruelty to animals at the next suitable legislative opportunity.
