§ Baroness HooperThe first detailed results of this major survey of diet and health of more than 2,000 adults throughout Britain are published today. I have placed a copy of the report in the Library.
This survey was conducted by the Office of Population, Censuses and Surveys for the Department of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF). In addition, the department and MAFF provided the dietary, nutritional and health expertise needed to conduct and interpret such a complex survey. My honourable friend the Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and I welcome this excellent report, which will provide a sound base for future food and health policy. The detailed findings provide an invaluable source of reference for those outside as well as within government, and are a benchmark against which future developments can be measured.
