§ Mr. ButlerTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the progress of the interdiction of drug trafficking in the Caribbean basin.
§ Mr. SainsburyLocal Governments and aid donors have taken steps to combat the flow of drugs through the Caribbean, but trafficking remains a major problem. We recognise the seriousness of this threat and are committed to helping Caribbean nations fight it. We have provided over £3 million of anti-drugs assistance to the region since 1987 and will provide a further £1.2 million to help our Caribbean dependent territories in their efforts. We co-operate fully with other anti-drugs agencies in the region.
