HC Deb 08 June 1990 vol 173 c735W
Mr. Wray

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what action he is taking to stop the increase in farm pollution cases in Scotland.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

I am pleased to say that the number of farm pollution incidents has fallen from 713 in 1987 and 572 in 1988 to 462 in 1989. The Government are presently considering the outcome of public consultation earlier this year on proposals for regulations to control silage, slurry and agricultural fuel oil installations on farms with the aim in due course of laying new regulations before Parliament.
