HC Deb 07 June 1990 vol 173 c697W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) what measures he has taken to avoid water shortages this summer; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will list the investment and public works to avoid water shortages in Wales undertaken since 1980; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Grist

Comprehensive information on works undertaken to reduce water loss and improve the water supply distribution system is not held centrally but among the most important are the River Wye transfer scheme and continuing work on the mini-grid system in south-east Wales.

It is the responsibility of Dwr Cymru Cyf to ensure that water supplies within its area can be maintained. The company, in liaison with the National Rivers Authority which has overall responsibility for water resource management, is keeping the present position under review.
