§ Lord Moran asked Her Majesty's Government:In the light of the recent disasters in Canada and elsewhere, what is their policy about the disposal of used tyres, how environmental damage from fires in tyre dumps can be avoided, and whether the recycling of used tyres can be promoted.
The Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Hesketh): In view of public concern about disposal of used tyres, the Government commissioned a study and have received a report from KPMG Peat Marwick McLintock which will be available shortly.
