HC Deb 07 June 1990 vol 173 cc700-1W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish in theOfficial Report, the reported cases of tuberculosis for each health authority in Wales, for each year between 1979 and 1990.

Mr. Grist

The number of notifications of tuberculosis made to the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys each year from 1979 to 1989 and for the first 20 weeks of 1990 are shown in the table. Data for 1982 onwards may not be strictly comparable with that for earlier years as the system was revised to enable notification associated with chemoprophylaxis to be excluded.

Mr. Gareth Wardell

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is the correlation coefficient between the incidence of HIV infection and the incidence of tuberculosis in Wales over the period 1980 to 1990.

Mr. Grist

There is no evidence of a correlation between HIV and the overall incidence of tuberculosis in Wales.
