HC Deb 07 June 1990 vol 173 c694W
Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what are the fire drill regulations for cross-channel passenger ferries.

Mr. Parkinson

The international convention on the safety of life at sea 1974 requires that a drill takes place every week on a cross-channel passenger ferry, and that each member of the crew participates in at least one such drill every month. The Merchant Shipping (Muster and Training) Regulations 1986 apply this requirement to United Kingdom-registered ferries.
