HC Deb 07 June 1990 vol 173 cc681-2W
Sir John Farr

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will make arrangements for it to be possible for payments made by his Department to be a cheque on the request of the claimant or his accredited representative.

Mrs. Gillian Shephard

Arrangements exist for benefit payments to be made by girocheque where an immediate payment is necessary or payment is for a short period only. Regular payments of benefit are normally made by order book encashable at a post office.
