HC Deb 06 June 1990 vol 173 c651W
30. Mrs. Ray Michie

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received about the siting of a nuclear waste repository in the Highlands.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

My right hon. and learned Friend received a number of representations about the siting of a nuclear waste repository during his consideration of the appeal lodged by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority against Highland regional council's decision to refuse planning permission for the drilling of two test boreholes at Dounreay. However, these representations were not relevant to that appeal, which related only to the application for test drilling. Any proposal for a nuclear waste repository would be the subject of a separate planning application and any objections which it attracted would be considered in that context.
