Mr. EadieTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland following receipt of the proposals from the governors of Newbattle Abbey college to the Scottish Education Department meeting the points raised by the Secretary of State when he withdrew grant aid to that college last year, whether he is now in a position to announce his intention to restore grant aid to the college.
§ Mr. LangMy right hon. and learned Friend has considered the plan submitted to him recently by the governors of Newbattle Abbey college and has concluded that it does not represent a basis for reopening his decision to withdraw direct funding for the college. The trustees and the board of governors have been advised of this decision.
