HC Deb 05 June 1990 vol 173 cc437-8W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether he has undertaken any survey of reasons for travel in London; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Atkins

The most recent comprehensive source of information on reasons for travel in London is the 1981 Greater London transportation survey carried out by the Greater London council. My Department is planning to conduct a major new survey in 1991 in collaboration with the London Research Centre, British Rail and London Transport.

Information on reasons for travel is also collected in the national travel survey and although this survey does not identify where the travel took place it does provide figures for travel by people resident in London. Some results are given in "Transport Statistics for London", a copy of which is in the Library.
