MR. Rogers

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many men and women were recruited into the Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force in the financial year 1989–90; and how many left each of the services prematurely.

The total intake in to the United Kingdom regular forces in the financial year 1989–90 is shown in table 1. The total number of exits form the services under premature wastage outflow categories during the same period is shown in table 2. The categories included in the outflow numbers correspond with those listed in table 4.18 of Volume of the "Statement on Defence Estimates" with the exception of "time and age
