HC Deb 05 June 1990 vol 173 c557W
Mr. Ronnie Campbell

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many(a) men and (b) women were receiving invalidity benefit and severe disability allowance in Blyth Valley at the latest date for which figures are available.

Mrs. Gillian Shephard

I regret that the information is not available in the precise form requested. The Blyth Valley constituency is served by the Department's local social security office at Blyth, but their boundaries are not conterminous. Nor does the local count of cases in action distinguish between men and women beneficiaries.

The table shows the numbers of people claiming sickness benefit, invalidity benefit and severe disablement allowance at Blyth local office as at 30 April 1990, the latest date for which information is available:

Numbers
1Sickness/Invalidity Benefit 4,340
Severe Disablement Allowance 435
1The local office count of cases in action does not distinguish between Sickness and Invalidity Benefit.

Source: 100 per cent of cases in action. The figures quoted may include a number of cases not actually in receipt of benefit. Data are provisional and subject to amendment.
