HC Deb 05 June 1990 vol 173 c556W
Mr. Blunkett

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) if he will publish his latest estimates of the number of claimants for each of the main social security benefits, including community charge benefit;

(2) if he will publish his latest estimates of (a) the number of claimants receiving each of the main social security benefits including poll tax rebates and (b) the total number of individuals in receipt of one or more benefits.

Mr. Scott

The latest estimates of the average number of recipients for each of the main social security benefits are given in the public expenditure White Paper, Cm 1014, table 14.11, except for community charge benefit, where, in view of a level of charges higher than originally assumed, it is now estimated that numbers will be in excess of 8 million. Information is not held on the number of individuals in receipt of more than one benefit. The information requested at (b) is therefore not available.
