§ Mr. David MarshallTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the total value of grants paid by each district council in Scotland for the replacement of water supply pipes made of lead during the financial years 1988–89 and 1989–90 and for the current financial year to date.
§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonReplacement of lead plumbing is usually carried out in conjunction with other580W works, and in these cases it is not possible to identify the cost of the plumbing work separately. Grants payable on applications approved in the years 1988–89 and 1989–90 for the replacement of lead plumbing alone were as in the table; returns have not yet been received for the period from April 1990 onwards.
