§ Mr. SteenTo ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what arrangements exist to keep his Department informed of regulatory and competition policy developments in the United States of America.
§ Mr. RedwoodMy Department maintains frequent formal and informal bilateral contacts with United States regulators. In the financial services area these contacts, together with participation in the International Organisation of Securities Commissions—of which both the United Kingdom and the United States are members—provide regular access to information on regulatory developments in the United States. My Department is informed of developments in the competition policy regimes of the United States through participation in the OECD committee on competition law and policy and through regular diplomatic contact with the United States Administration.
