HC Deb 26 July 1990 vol 177 cc548-9W
Mr. Dewar

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in theOfficial Report tables for the financing of local authority expenditure separately in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland which are directly comparable with the United Kingdom table printed as table 21.4.13 of Cm 1021.

Mr. Norman Lamont

Data are not held in a form which allows the disaggregation of table 21.4.13 of Cm 1021 across territories. Consequently it is not possible to provide analyses directly comparable to this table except at excessive cost. However, much of the information requested is contained in a slightly different form in:

  1. i. Local Government Financial Statistics England
  2. ii. Scottish Local Government Financial Statistics
  3. iii. Welsh Local Government Financial Statistics
  4. iv. Northern Ireland Annual Abstract of Statistics

These are published annually by the Department of the Environment, the Scottish Office, the Welsh Office and the Department of Finance and Personnel, Northern Ireland respectively and are obtainable from the Library.

Mr. Dewar

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in theOfficial Report tables for the financing of local authority expenditure in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom, in a form comparable to table 21.4.13 of Cm. 1021, but analysing the financing of local authority expenditure as in table 21.4.6, and not the financing of local authority expenditure on a national accounts definition.

Mr. Norman Lamont

The table shows the financing of local authority expenditure as defined in table 21.4.6 of Cm. 1021 for the United Kingdom:

Mr. Dewar

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in theOfficial Report a table showing reconciliations for England, Scotland and Wales between local authority current expenditure as in Table 21.4.8 of Cm. 1021 and the respective aggregate expenditure for grant purposes in successive Revenue/Rate Support Grant Orders.

Mr. Lamont

I regret that it has not been possible to provide an answer before the summer recess. I shall therefore write to the hon. Member and place a copy in the Library of the House.
