Mr. O'Neill

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is(a) the current number and (b) the grades or ranks of staff attached to the defence arms control unit.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

The defence arms control unit consists of 18 civilian and military posts in London; in addition, there are four posts attached to the United Kingdom's delegations in Vienna and Geneva, three military and one civilian. The posts, by grade/rank and location, are as follows:

London

  • 1 x Assistant Secretary (Grade 5)
  • 1 x Colonel
  • 3 x Principals (Grade 7)
  • 3 x Lt. Colonel (one detached to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office)
  • 1 x Wing Commander
  • 1 x Higher Executive Officer
  • 3 x Executive Officers
  • 1 x Administrative Officer
  • 2 x Administrative Assistants
  • 1 x Personal Secretary
  • 1 x Typist

Vienna

  • 1 x Brigadier
  • 1 x Group Captain
  • 1 x Personal Secretary

Geneva

  • 1 x Colonel
