To ask the Secretary of State for Health whether he is planning any new initiative to improve the labelling of dangerous drugs.

I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave him on 12 December 1989, at column601.

The EC Commission submitted its proposal for a directive on the labelling of drugs and on package leaflets to the Council of Ministers in January. Negotiations at official level are now in progress.
