HC Deb 25 July 1990 vol 177 c313W
Mr. Robert G. Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he has received the report by the Government Actuary on the operation of the Social Security Acts since 1980.

Mr. Newton

I have today laid before the House the report that the Government Actuary has made on the operation of the Social Security Acts between April 1980 and April 1985 in accordance with section 137 of the Social Security Act 1975. The report provides a detailed forward look into the next century on the possible future costs of benefits paid out on the national insurance fund and on the contributions likely to be needed to pay for them. The Government will take this report into account in the normal processes for reviewing contributions and benefit expenditure.
