HC Deb 25 July 1990 vol 177 c353W
49. Mr. Michael

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what are the sewage outlets into seas and estuaries which were at a planning stage and will now incorporate full treatment, as a result of his North sea conference announcement; how much will be contributed from Government funds; and what proportion of the additional costs that contribution represents.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

Discussions are being held with the sewage undertakers, the National Rivers Authority and the Office of Water Services about the implications for individual schemes of the decision to treat all substantial sewage discharges.

The additional costs must be met by the water service companies, although these costs will be eligible for consideration for cost pass-through.
