Dr. ThomasTo ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Don Valley (Mr. Redmond),Official Report, 9 July, column 67, if he will publish such information as he possesses for the past five years on the number of reported cases of radioactive caesium in people.
§ Mr. DorrellIn the United Kindom the presence of radiocaesium in people is widespread but can be detected only by sophisticated monitoring equipment. The Department of the Environment are sponsoring a survey using mobile equipment of levels of radiocaesium in people in parts of England and Wales. Preliminary results demonstrate that in every person monitored the radiocaesium activity was less than one fifth of the radioactive potassium activity naturally present in the body. This represents a negligible risk to health.
