HC Deb 25 July 1990 vol 177 c357W
76. Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many new tenancies he estimates will be created by private landlords(a) during 1990 and (b) in 1991.

109. Mr. Livingstone

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many new tenancies have been created by private landlords under the Housing Act 1988.

Mr. Michael Spicer

We are about to commence a detailed evaluation of the impact of deregulation and that will include an assessment of the number of tenancies so far created. There are already clear signs of increased activity in the residential letting market. We estimate that £535 million has so far been invested in business expansion scheme companies letting on assured tenancies, which should provide some 9,500 additional homes for letting.
