HC Deb 25 July 1990 vol 177 c353W
45. Mr. Bowis

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what proportion of housing association houses and flats is subject to equity sharing agreements; and what proportion carries the right to buy.

Mr. Michael Spicer

Since April 1979 there have been some 22,000 housing association sales in England under shared ownership arrangements. Information about those which have subsequently been fully purchased by the occupier, or reverted to housing association ownership, is not available centrally.

Housing associations owned an estimated 565,000 dwellings in England at the end of March 1990, and the right to buy is available to all tenants except (a) those with assured tenancies, (b) tenants of charitable housing associations, (c) those in housing associations which have not been publicly funded, and (d) those in associations which are fully mutual co-operatives. Estimates of the number of tenants excluded are not available.
