HC Deb 25 July 1990 vol 177 c275W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will publish a table showing the increase in average weekly earnings of full-time adult male(a) manual workers in manufacturing and (b) non-manuals in the private sector, less manufacturing, together with his estimate of the increase in unit labour costs in manufacturing and non-manufacturing, respectively, since 1979.

Mr. Forth

I refer the hon. Member to the reply given to him in the last Session(Official Report, 1 November column 240) for the increase in earnings of manual workers in manufacturing. Figures are not readily available for non-manuals in the private sector less manufacturing and would involve disproportionate cost to compile.

Figures for unit labour costs in manufacturing are given in table 5.7 of Employment Gazette. Unit labour costs in non-manufacturing would involve disproportionate cost to compile.
