HL Deb 23 July 1990 vol 521 c1313WA
Lord Stoddart of Swindon

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will undertake an assessment of the impact of a single EC currency on (1) Parliamentary sovereignty, (2) economic and fiscal policy in the United Kingdom, before agreeing to accept this as an integral part of EC economic and monetary union.

The Paymaster General (The Earl of Caithness)

The Government have made clear their assessment, most recently in speeches by the Chancellor of the Exchequer to the German Industry Forum on 20th June and to the North Wales CBI on 6th July, copies of which are in the Library.
