To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what is his estimate of the level of gas production this year on the United Kingdom continental shelf.

Mr. Peter Morrison

Gas production in the first four months of 1990 was some 7,200 million therms. The level of production in the remainder of the year will depend on many factors, in particular the severity of the forthcoming winter.
