HC Deb 19 July 1990 vol 176 c671W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Minister for the Arts if he will publish the response he has made to the letter from Dr. Peter Jung and expert colleagues in foraminifera, ammonites and mammals of the naturhistorische museum in Basel about whether a major collection can be actively cared for under proposals such as those for the natural history museum in respect of expert staff; and what action he proposes to take to discharge obligations, in respect of scientists' work in building up collections to the benefit of smaller museums, throughout the world.

Mr. Luce

I have placed a copy of my correspondence with Dr. Peter Jung in the Library of the House. I have asked the Government's chief scientific adviser, who is in discussion with the natural history museum, to keep me informed of the museum's position in relation to the United Kingdom science base. I shall be meeting the chairman and director of the museum to discuss these and other issues.
