HC Deb 19 July 1990 vol 176 c729W
Ms. Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will undertake a full national survey to identify aquifers most at risk from groundwater contamination; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

As part of its statutory duties to protect water resources and control pollution the National Rivers Authority is already undertaking national surveys of groundwater contamination and establishing a uniform national network of monitoring sites. It is also developing a national groundwater protection policy which will include a classification of aquifers according to vulnerability from pollution.
