To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list those public supplies identified by the drinking water inspectorate where levels of tetrachloroethylene and trichloroethylene exceed the World Health Organisation standards for these substances; and where undertakings under section 20 of the Water Act 1989 have been given.

Undertakings have been given by water companies as follows under section 20 of the Water Act 1989 to take steps to secure or facilitate compliance with the standards for tetrachloroethylene and trichloroethylene:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will now publish his Department's report into radioactive contamination of London drinking water.

Mr. Trippier

The research work commissioned by my Department on iodine 125 and being carried out by St. Bartholomew's hospital medical college will not be completed until March 1991. A first draft report was received this month and is currently being reviewed by Her Majesty's inspectorate of pollution. The report will be published in due course and copies will be placed in the Library.
