§ Mr. SteenTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, further to his answer of 6 July,Official Report, column 729, when he hopes to make a statement about whether and how changes will be made to the present arrangements for payment of value added tax on duty-free fuel by British fishing vessels.
§ Mr. RyderWhile the Government are considering whether and how changes to the present arrangements should be made, temporary measures have been introduced which broadly continue the VAT zero-rating of duty-free fuel supplied to British fishing vessels. A full review of the treatment of fuels supplied as stores to shipping and aircraft is to be undertaken. The trade will be consulted. My right hon. and noble Friend the Paymaster General hopes to make a statement on the subject by the end of the year.
