HL Deb 12 July 1990 vol 521 c544WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will heed the call for the cancellation of Sizewell B, recently joined by The Times (26th June 1990).

Viscount Ullswater

No. My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Energy has already made clear that Nuclear Electric will continue with Sizewell B. The Government have carried out an analysis of the economics of the project, the conclusions of which were laid in the Library of the House on 26th June. On the basis of this analysis, and taking account of the importance of the station in maintaining the nuclear option and in reducing fossil emissions, the Government believe it is right that Sizewell B be completed.
