§ Dr. GodmanTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence which Scottish regiments have been disbanded or amalgamated with others in the past 25 years; if he has any proposals to disband or amalgamate any existing Scottish regiments; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Archie HamiltonTwo regular Scottish cavalry and infantry regiments have been disbanded or amalgamated since 1965: the last regular battalion of the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) was disbanded in 1968; and the Royal Scots Greys were amalgamated with the 3rd Carabiniers (Prince of Wales Dragoon Guards)—a Welsh regiment—to form the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers and Greys) in 1971.
I cannot comment on the future of any particular regiments at this stage. Work on options for change is continuing.
