HC Deb 12 July 1990 vol 176 cc322-3W
50. Mr. Marlow

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what assessment he has made of the implications for race relations of the development of strongly separated ethnic cultural traditions in the United Kingdom.

Mr. John Patten

The United Kingdom has long accommodated many diverse cultural traditions. Our guiding aim is that people of all races should participate fully in the mainstream of British society. Modern Britain has plenty of room for cultural and religious diversity, but there cannot be room for separation or segregation.
