HC Deb 12 July 1990 vol 176 c300W
Mr. Hood

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many inmates in each Scottish prison have AIDS; and if he will make a statement.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The one Scottish inmate who has AIDS is located in Perth prison. The care and treatment of prison inmates with AIDS is the responsibility of the prison medical officer who will consult outside specialists as appropriate. Where any treatment required is unavailable within the prison the inmate will be temporarily transferred to an outside facility.
