HC Deb 12 July 1990 vol 176 c278W
Mrs. Margaret Ewing

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when he expects the Government to become a signatory to the agreement on Euroroute designations; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Atkins

As part of a wider consultation exercise on traffic signs commenced in September 1988, this Department sought views on a proposal for E-route signs. Reactions were limited and ambivalent. In the absence of clear evidence of benefit to road users and in view of the potential for confusion from a second road numbering system, the Secretary of State decided against ratification of the relevant international agreement.
